Contest Info

Contests:  There are two separate types of contests to be held in conjunction with the Festival.  “First Amendment Champions” will celebrate outstanding high school student journalism in the categories of  writing, photography and design.  First and second place winners will be announced at lunch and receive beautiful certificates.  Contact the conference Coordinator, Dr. Andrea Frantz for entry forms.

In addition to the high school student journalism contests, the Festival of Five Freedoms will sponsor a contest that celebrates outstanding First Amendment statements.

For high school students:
·         An op-ed contest will recognize outstanding student editorials or columns that address a First Amendment issue or problem.
·         A  literary contest will recognize outstanding essay writing or poetry that utilizes a First Amendment theme.

For RMU college students:
·         An op-ed category, like the one described above for high school students
·         A multimedia contest will recognize an outstanding First Amendment message that utilizes video, audio, design, writing or a blend of all or some.

First Place prizes for both high school and college categories are Acer mini-laptop computers.
